Gucci Décor: a Collection of Homeware Design by Alessandro Michele
Gucci, founded in 1921, has always been a leading luxury fashion brand, renowned for its creativity, innovation and Italian craftsmanship. It continues to do so under the leadership of creative director Alessandro Michele, appointed in 2015, with the new homeware range Gucci Décor. The interiors collection is rich with intricate motifs and hand-applied embroidery, which takes up to 10 hours to complete, conveying a unique maximalist vision.
Contemporary romanticism, intended to redefine 21st luxury, is what characterises this range, from candles, to plates, wallpapers, cushions and furniture. Therefore, each piece is bespoke, which allows for a completely flexible and personal means of decoration.
Within the short space of two years, Michele has attained a number of awards and accolades; the International Designer Award from the British Fashion Awards, the International Award from the CFDA and the British GQ Designer of the Year Award. Originally from Rome, Michele studied costume design at Rome’s Academy of Costume and Fashion, followed by a tutelage under Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi at Fendi in the late 90’s where he designed leather goods, before joining Gucci under Tom Ford in 2002. As a designer, he has successfully balanced his own distinctive sense of vintage style with the brand’s indispensable identity and history, resulting in a new and exciting creative narrative for Gucci. In March 2017, the brand announced its strongest revenue increase in 20 years, of 51 percent all-encompassing.
Amongst the Gucci Décor range, designed by Alessandro Michele and available at WallpaperSTORE*, customers can find items featuring the house motif, scented candles in porcelain jars, lacquered chairs upholstered with embroidered seats, and detailed wallpaper designs. The line also includes trays, cushions, mugs and metal folding tables.
Featured Products on WallpaperSTORE*
The Herbarium Wallpaper depicts a vintage inspired Toile de Jouy design of cherry branches, leaves and flowers for a whimsical effect. Originally taken from the ready-to-wear collections, the brand’s signature motifs are now being introduced into interior spaces. Variations come in black, green and red Made in Italy.
Kingsnake Velvet Cushion
The Kingsnake is an icon of the House and decorates this plush, green and black, velvet square pillow surrounded by a garland of flowers. The design is inspired by motifs once used in churches by English nobles. The pillows are filled by hand, sewn and edged with hand-applied braided trimming and fringe tassels.
Grotesque Garden Snake Candle
Gucci's Herbosum candle features the Grotesque Garden print, applied to the outer casing of a motif that is as stylish as it is aromatic. The candle is encased in a reusable holder made from Richard Ginori porcelain, topped with a lid and features a slithering white snake. The fragrance infuses together fresh and intense notes of tomato leaves and aromatic plants, alongside hints of basil and lemongrass.
Tigers Metal Tray
Often seen in Alessandro Michele's collections for the brand, the power and energy of the Tiger is captured on this metal tray, in which the image is layered together to create a bold and abstract effect. Rimmed with a circular black border the tray can be used for serving or displaying, as well as coordinated alongside pieces from the same collection in different size.
Sea Life Folding Table
Aquatic themes make regular appearances in Alessandro Michele's ready-to-wear collections for Gucci and now feature in the Gucci Décor collection. This is a functional, as well as elegant table, comprising of a tray, decorated with a sea life print in green and fuchsia metal, atop three legs.
The Chiavari chair, featuring "double G" upholstery is inspired by Michele's ready-to-wear collections for Gucci. With a lacquered beech wood frame and brass nail heads outlining the chair's cushion, Chiavar' is both furniture and a piece of artwork. Available in various colours, such as pink, blue, green and black, with hand applied embroidery and appliqué, this chair is a standout centrepiece for any space.
Herbarium Teapot & Coulisse Hand Mug
Gucci's Herbarium print, depicting a vintage inspired Toile de Jouy design of cherry branches, leaves and flowers for a whimsical effect, also features in the tableware range, typifying the Italian fashion house's signature élan and boldness. For this teapot it is applied in a shade of emerald onto a white Richard Ginori porcelain. Coordinate it with other pieces from the Décor collection, such as the Coulisse mug. Another Richard Ginori porcelain model, this white mug features the "Coulisse" motif and is topped with a pink and white porcelain lid with a white ring and a white handle with a gold rim.
Esotericum, Inventum and Fumus Incense Sticks
For those a fan of incense, the Gucci Décor collection includes incense bundles, consisting of three aromas in a bunch of 25 sticks of bamboo in a bright fuchsia hue. The Esotericum incense infuses the scent of Seville oranges with undertones of jasmine, warm leather and salt. By contrast, the Inventum incense gives off a pink rose perfume underwritten by notes of Taif damask rose. Lastly, the ''Fumus' incense is a mixture of old nuance, wax and camphor.
