Dating back to the 1970s, Spanish brand BD Barcelona is known for its tendency to cultivate beauty and an ability to secure exclusive rights and collaborations with a host of designers. With its founders and current owners coming from architectural backgrounds, many of the brand's collections are an unabashed celebration beauty — in some cases above function — and are produced via artisanal processes rather than mass production, giving newly released products a guise that more closely resembles art than industrial design.
In addition to its edits of Gaudí-designed furniture in the 1970s and 1990s, and obtaining the rights to produce an exclusive first collection of furniture and lamps designed by Salvador Dalí, BD Barcelona regularly collaborates with contemporary designers like Jaime Hayon and Doshi Levien.
