Hailing from Beirut, Karen Chekerdjian’s route to design took an unusual trajectory, preceded by careers in advertising, via film and graphic design. Following her study of Industrial Design at DOMUS Academy under the tutelage of Massimo Morozzi, a co-founder of Archizoom and Chekerjian's eventual mentor, the designer returned to Beirut to found Karen Chekerdjian Studio in 2001.
Here, she began to carve a foundation for design in Lebanon, drawing on culturally specific traditions and skills, and frequently working with local artisans to create a unique language that translates handicraft into distinct product design.
