Sustainable

Inspired by the patch-work spontaneity of mixed-media collage, Patricia Urquiola's 'Patcha' collection for CC-Tapis overlaps and combines a variety of textures, colours, pile heights and pattern to create a patchwork rug. At the heart of the series is an exploration of the application of reused and upcycled materials, such as the elements of speckled wool used here, which were created from leftover silk and excess wool from the production from previous rugs. The resulting collection reimagines the concept of upcycling as a gesture, while the idea of experimentation is shaped by each rug's handcrafted appearance. With its irregular borders, spontaneous shape and graphic lines made from silk gathered from Indian sari vests, this square runner pays homage to both inventive graphic compositions, and sustainability and circularity.
