'Hydro Chair'

A gift from the future to the present, Tom Dixon's 'Hydro Chair' is an innovation in aluminium technology. Manufactured in Canada by sub-suppliers to Tesla, the futuristic seat is defined by a ballooned pattern that is created using a blow-form process whereby aluminium is blasted at a high temperature and then laser cut by robots to create deep and complex forms. The result is the alignment of a generous scalloped ribbing alongside a thin 2.3mm profile, which together create a form that simultaneously appears fat and lightweight. Easy to maintain, thanks to advances in aluminium forming and bonding, and fully recyclable, the 'Hydro Chair' applies the vastly innovative potential of modern technology to an everyday item made for a design audience. This numbered chair is presented as a limited edition from a series of 60 in homage to Salone's 60th anniversary.
