Following stints as a footballer, a racing car driver and a student of law, Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2006) tried his hand at the family business — RIMA, a company producing of metal furniture. In 1948 he assumed co-management of the company with his brother and gradually built a business renowned for the design and production of now iconic furniture. From collaborations with the likes of
Gio Ponti, Marco Zanuso and Carlo Mollino, to the design of the 'DU10' and 'DU11' chairs for the Hospital Section of the IX Milan Triennial, and a Compasso d’Oro award for his creation of the 'DU30' chair, Rinaldi's work epitomises a golden era of Italian design.
