Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1945, 'Bench 153B' is perhaps one of the Finnish designer's most recognisable pieces. The original features — defined by four legs which correspond with other pieces from the designer's 'L-leg' family — are still there, but this special edition is notable for Japanese designer Jo Nagasaka's application of two layers of a red and turquoise lacquer on the surface as part of her ColoRing series for Artek. The result is a solid birch wood bench that presents the warm and organic qualities of Aalto's original, uplifted by Nagasaka's colour infusion.
