Salvatori

Salvatori was established in 1946 by founder Guido Salvatori. Since the beginning the brand has worked closely with architects, designers and builders to explore and develop new ways of working with stone, often challenging traditionally thinking. As a result Salvatori has become synonymous with innovation, design and excellence all over the world.

The head office is based in Northern Tuscany, near artistic haven Pietrasanta and 30 minutes away from the quarries of Carrara marble. Working with clients is a complete partnership, starting from the choice of stone, to design, installation and care, including both practical and aesthetic aspects. Today the third generation of the Salvatori family continues the brand’s innovation. CEO Gabriele Salvatori and his brother Guido work together with clients such as Armani, Louis Vuitton and Bergdorf Goodman.

The inspiration for Salvatori’s designs starts at the quarries. The headquarters are dominated by the Apuan Alps and Carrara quarries. With such surroundings and the quality, permanence and endurance of the marble, it is not surprising that the stone is embedded in the brand’s DNA and shapes everything they do.

Salvatori sources raw materials from all over the world and on a few occasions the brand has been the first to discover new types of stone. Finding the perfect stone is an ongoing process and blocks are rejected if they don’t meet quality standards.

At their Tuscan workshop the brand are pioneers of the stone cutting process. Their machinery has been designed and built by Salvatori to produce unique textures and finishes and work alongside computerised technology, water jet machines for precision cutting and vacuum equipment.

The Salvatori team continues to expand with research taking a key part in their brand development. One of their most momentous innovations is the Lithoverde stone. 99% is composed of recycled stone with a natural resin making up the remaining 1%. It has been globally recognised for its contribution to the environment, as well as acclaimed as a beautiful stone in its own right.

Salvatori now has four flagship showrooms in London, Sydney, Milan and Zurich.

Designer Focus

 

Elisa Ossino

Ossino is a graduate of architecture from Milan’s Politecnico. She is an Italian architect and interior stylist who founded her eponymous studio in 2000. Specialising in design, styling and brand image consultancy, her Milan-based firm has collaborated with a series of leading names in design including Salvatori, Boffi and De Padova.

Ossino's work is characterised by a strong sense of drama counterbalanced by a distinctive touch of indefinable lightness, an innovative language that in 2010 led the designer to establish Officina Temporanea, an initiative which researches design and forms of expression in art.

Ossino has designed for Salvatori: the ‘Kilos’ Bookends, the ‘Omaggio a Morandi’ Collection and the ‘Urano’ Table Lamp.

Michael Anastassiades

Michael Anastassiades is a London-based Cypriot designer who launched his studio in 1994 to explore contemporary notions of culture and aesthetics through a combination of product, furniture and environmental design. Anastassiades’ work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York and the V&A in London, and he has designed products for Flos, Lobmeyr and Svenskt Tenn. In 2007 he launched his signature brand, producing a collection of lighting, furniture, jewellery, and table top objects.

Anastassiades has designed for Salvatori: ‘Paperweight A’, ‘Paperweight B’.

Iconic Products

‘Omaggio a Morandi’

This collection is a product of the collaboration between designer Elisa Ossino and Salvatori. The 'Omaggio a Morandi' collection pays homage to the paintings of the Italian artist Morandi. The rich marble is from the quarries of the Apuan Alps, not far from Salvatori's Tuscan workshop where the products are hand-finished.

'Urano' Table Lamp

Also designed by Elisa Ossino for Salvatori, the 'Urano' table lamp is functional as well as sculptural. The lamp comes in different sizes and is carved out of a cube of bianco Carrara into a smooth and elegant sphere, a perfect counterpart to the soft and romantic light emitted. Supplied with a UL and CE certified transformer and a multi-plug adaptor.

'Paperweight A'

This marble paperweight was created by Michael Anastassiades as he developed his ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’ collection of tables for Salvatori. 'Paperweight A' bears all the hallmarks of the London-based designer's contemporary luxe aesthetic. Essentially an offcut of the table legs, the Bianco Arabescato marble weight takes a distinctive petal-like form that also serves its purpose. Beautiful and functional, 'Paperweight A's' striking swathes of grey veins introduce an eye-catching elegance into any space.
