'J C Volkamer: The Book of Citrus Fruits'

The Nuremberg merchant J C Volkamer’s well documented passion is beautifully replicated in Taschen's 'The Book of Citrus Fruits', a presentation of 170 varieties of citrus fruits in 256 rare hand-coloured large-sized copperplates commissioned by Volkamer in the early 18th century. Drawing on two recently discovered hand-coloured volumes, and also including 56 newly discovered illustrations, Taschen's volume is a highly poetic ode to citrus fruits and how to tend them, combined with insight that can only be garnered from Volkamer’s years of hands-on experience.
