'Transit' vase, small

According to the Analects, 'The superior man seeks to perfect the admirable qualities of men, and does not seek to perfect their bad qualities”. The Chinese consider bamboo as representative of the ideal qualities of the 'superior man' — its hollow interior symbolic of humility, moral fortitude and incorruptibility. Led by the shape of the bamboo stalk, German design firm Designschneider has created 'Transit' for Jia Inc. Working equally as a vase and a centerpiece, 'Transit' is made from a combination of plywood, bamboo veneer and semi-translucent duotone glass fired at high temperatures. The result is a modern vase constructed by highly skilled glass-blowers who have created each finished item piece by piece.
