Starting his career in the 1970s as a designer at Italian electronics manufacturer Olivetti, George Sowden went on to establish SowdenDesign in 1981. A founding member of the Memphis Group, Sowden's career has placed an equal focus on both the postmodern design movement and
electronics, and the English designer and product developer was an early proponent of computerised design tools. Collaborating with brands such as Alessi, Hay and Pyrex, Sowden's designs span homewares, household appliances and furniture.
