Hans Sandgren Jakobsen

A trained cabinet maker and graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - the School of Design, Hans Sandgren Jakobsen spent a year in Japan in the early nineties before joining Nanna Ditzel's drawing office between 1990-1997. Following this, the Danish designer's 'Gallery' stool debuted to worldwide acclaim and was a catalyst in him being awarded the Danish Furniture Prize in 2000 — two years after its design. Now working with both Japanese and Danish companies,

Sandgren Jakobsen's work is defined by brightness and simplicity, and sits firmly in the Danish Scandinavian design tradition while also being influenced by the designer's interest in American Shakers and their furniture. The Sandgren Jakobsen is the recipient of the 2009 Finn Juhl Architectural Prize, the 2000 Furniture Prize, and the 1998 Three-Year Working Grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.
