For the past four decades Cape Town-based potter Clementina van der Walt has managed a studio, lectured at multiple insitutions and held a number of one-person shows. Her ceramic objects are both contemplative and utilitarian in a response to the information overload of modern life and, says the designer, ‘seek the sacred in the ordinary’. Inspired by the textures, colours and patterns of the African landscape, the ceramic 'Clementina S18' jug was created for a GUILD Group collaboration collection, launched at WallpaperSTORE*'s 2017 pop up at GUILD Store Cape Town.

Clementina van der Walt
Clementina van der WaltCape Town-based studio potter Clementina van der Walt is well-known in South Africa for her handmade collections of contemplative and utilitarian objects that look to cultural and historical links to rituals of everyday life. In addition to her line of ceramics, van der Walt runs Clementina Ceramics Studio and the Kraaldoring Studio and Gallery with partner Albie Bailey, as well as lecturing and holding one-person shows around South Africa.
